Our New Little Surprise

Okay, so just to preface this....sorry about the delay in getting pics up and also sorry about how many pics we ended up posting on here haha.....we narrowed it down to these pictures, but ya....we might have gotten carried away, but oh well.... :)

So, Mary came up with the idea that on this kid, we wouldn't find out the gender until it was born...at first, I was against it because I wanted to plan things out and be prepared...but we agreed on it. And I have to say, it was such a neat experience. I mean, it would be exciting if we already knew (like we did w/Korbin), but it just added a little excitement to the whole thing.
We started off the morning by getting up at 5:00 in the morning....ugh...neither of us got much sleep last night, so we were tired, but very eager to find out who this little person was that we were going to have in our lives after today!

We got to the room and they did all of the prep stuff and then whisked Mary off into the O.R. I got to dress up in a fancy shmancy outfit with booties and a cap again! I had to wait several minutes to meet them in the O.R. because it turns out they couldn't find the doctors! lol, it was kinda funny..

Anyway, the doctor's were operating for a few minutes and then said "does dad want to say if it's a boy or a girl?" So naturally, I stood up and I see my child face down with the doctor's hand covering its little bottom haha! He said "here you go!" and uncovered it and, welp, it's a boy! My first image of my son was him mooning me! lol....Haha, anyway, the doctors were great and had fun with it. Oh and another cool thing is that they had music playing in the room while they were operating....not DMX-style gangsta music, but nice, light, relaxing music. He was born when Train - Soul Sister was playing....you should youtube the song if you've never heard it before....anyway....here are a few pics from when he was about 30 seconds old!

Oof! He had a rough first few minutes!

Awww....our first family pic together......wish Korbin coulda been there too :( :( The hospital implemented some strict visiting rules though, so no visitors under 14 allowed...guess our little boys will have to wait a couple days to meet each other!

He was having a hard time getting all the fluid out of his lungs, so they hooked him up to this little martian head thing to help him clear everything out. The little trooper made it through it though!
Strikin a pose for the ladies ;)

Ahhhh.....just relaxin....
Look at those pretty eyes looking at mommy! So cute!Me and the little guy #2
Ahh....gotta love the first few tar diapers.....notice the gloves...no way I'm gettin that Sh!t on me! lol!
Okay, so Mary and I think this picture looks Just like Korbin! It is one of my favs so far though...he's so peaceful and cute...

We love our new little addition to the family!

oh, and P.S. the little guy's name is Quinn Daniel Nelson

Korbin's Late Bday Blog

Birthday Number Two!!

Sooo, his birthday wasn't late, but this blog is about 2 weeks late haha....oh well I guess better late than never...

We had a little birthdy party this year and had Marshall, Lanette, Abigail, Heather, and Mike over for it. My mom Just missed being able to come to his party but we did have a "pre-bday party" with her and my family a couple of days before and had a good time with them too.

His birthday this year was quite a bit different than his first one....it was really cool that he actually knew what presents were and was able to blow out the candles and stuff. He opened the majority of his presents on his own too....what a guy eh? Here are a couple of our favorite pics....
Opening a present all by myself!

Korbin having a good time with Mommy...aww cute! :)
Is it bad that I was just as excited about playing with his new toys as he was?? Eh well....no shame here!

What a happy smile!

Korbin blowin out his Birthday Cake Truck Candles! Nice cake Mom!
Remember last year's cake experience? I think he's grown up a bit since then! It's funny, he always asks for utensils when we eat meals....so civilized! lol
Now, this one it Kind of looks like he is crying, but I'm pretty sure he was actually just acting crazy while he was eating his cake. He had a good time.

Again....what is going on in this picture is up for debate....is he sharing with his friend Abigail? Or is he trying to steal away a crayon that she was playing with? Hrm....I know my son, so I know what my vote is....haha....I'll leave that one up for discussion though...

And that is all.....hangin out with dad to finish out the night watching the movie Cars.
All in all, it was a great birthday and we are looking forward to a lot more! We love you Bubby!

Father's Day #2

So this year was my second Father's Day that I actually was a Dad... and it was a good time...

I had just gotten home from a work trip to Tennessee (where a tornado almost touched down while I was out there! It was pretty crazy), so it was really nice to have some time to relax and spend some time w/the fam. My lovely wife made me German Pancake for breakfast (my favorite breakfast food) and I got to spend some time reading with Korbin...

Korbin helped Mary pick out the best present I could have gotten on Father's Day....Korbin liked it even more than I did! :)

Ah.....my little baseball player! :)

Like Father Like Son

Mary and I enjoy our time when we are able to cuddle on the couch and watch movies together and have some quiet time....well.....sometimes it is quiet time and sometimes we just wish that it was "quiet" during this "quiet time" haha...

Anyway....a lot of times while we are watching a movie together, Korbin likes to go upstairs and play. We usually let him be up there alone for a couple of minutes and then we argue about who has to get up off the comfy couch to go and make sure he isn't getting into anything he shouldn't be (like mascara! lol).

Here is an example of some of the stuff he likes to do when he sneaks upstairs...

Looks like he takes after Dad yes? :) Haha, doesn't he look like he is having fun? That's my boy!

Mommy's Makeup

Sooo, I know it has been quite a while since I last posted a blog... So hey, now I'll post a couple of them right in a row! Good stuff eh? Hope you like the reading material.

Saturdays have been kind of my day to spend time with Korbin. Typically Mary works that day from 3-11, so I get that time to hang out with him and bond. It really is a fun time....recently, we have kind of carried on a tradition my mom has about "pizza/movie night" and we buy pizza/cinnamon sticks from a local pizza place and then watch some TV or a movie together.

So a couple of weeks ago, I was on the computer and Korbin was playing downstairs (or so I thought) and he peeked around the corner....and this is what I saw....

I guess he found Mary's mascara...lol....that will teach Us to keep everything out of his reach...
I swear we'll do better at keeping him out of stuff that makes a mess....lol

I love my boy

I am a bit late in writing this, but I still think it was a good topic. The week before Valentine's Day, Mary's mom took Korbin down to Cedar City with her. We got him back Sunday afternoon. It was kind of a weird experience....

Mary and I were able to watch House episodes back-to-back without having to pause every couple of minutes to get our little boy out of the dog food....we were able to sleep in on Saturday without waking up to a little person talking to himself or yelling for us....we were able to lay on the couch and watch TV without our boy yelling for our attention....

and i realized that, although we were able to have some quiet time....I really missed him. I don't mind the lack of quiet time...I don't mind pausing the movie and pulling the dog food out of his mouth....to be honest, I actually miss doing those things........well.....sometimes :) haha, I love my boy and he loves me back!
It was really cool....the other day just before Mary left for work, she was carrying him downstairs to go out to the car and she told him to say "Bye Daddy" and he did! He said two distinct words "Bye Daddy" and waved....seriously, the cutest thing ever....what a way to start out the day right?

Uhm......HUH????

Normal Sandwich yes??? Ahhhh.....read on my friends......

I love Cheetos! And I love cheese sandwiches!!! I love eating a cheese sandwich and having a handful of Cheetos as a snack with my meal.....however....I do not like the idea of making a sandwich with cheese, mayo, and Cheetos on it........

One might ask, "Who Would make a sandwich with cheese, mayo, and Cheetos on it?"

And I would respond "My Wife....that's who."

Do I understand her taste in food? No....I absolutely do not, but I still love her.....

Behold!!!!!!.....my wife's Sunday Snack!!

Long Trips = Big Hugs

I have never blogged before, but seeing some of my close friends/family members blogs, I think it is an awesome idea and a Great way of keeping sort of an online journal. I had a few minutes at work today, so I thought I would start one up with a simple post.

I travel a lot for my job unfortunately. Last year, I had 106 nights in hotels....kind of crazy if you think about it. I was away from my family for nearly 1/3 of the entire year! Not fun at all....but, it was a job and I am glad to have it. Beginning this year, I will now only be traveling one week per month! Woot!

I went out on the road to Chicago this past week and it was a pretty tiring week. I was supposed to get home Friday afternoon around 4:30, but as we were about to land (landing gear was down and we were only a few hundred feet off the ground) the pilot punched it and we took off again. The fog was too thick, so the visibility was so bad, we couldn't "legally" land. After about 5 minutes of circling SLC airport and seeing a few other planes go through the same process, we ended up getting diverted to Grand Junction, Colorado. After 6 hours of waiting, they finally canceled our flight and long story short, I got home on Saturday at about 10:30 a.m. I was Really tired and was excited to see Mary and Korbin, but I kind of just wanted to take a nap.

I grabbed my suitcase and backpack, which seemed heavier than when I left, and carried them to the porch. As I was walking up the steps, I could see my beautiful wife holding my freaking cute son in her arms pointing out the window out at me. I could see my son's ear-to-ear smile through the window and could hear him laughing even before I opened the door. I set down my suitcase and opened the front door and all I hear is Korbin squealing with excitement at the top of his lungs. I had never seen him this excited before. As I stepped inside, he yelled "Dadda!!!!". Mary let him down and he ran over to me and gave me a huge hug and kiss. Mary came and joined in the hug...in the background, our dog is still going crazy (she gets excited when I come home too apparently). Suddenly, as I am sitting there holding my family, I feel no fatigue anymore. I feel a burning inside and happiness and it is all I can do to hold back a tear. Although that moment lasted only about 10 seconds, it is one of my most memorable so far as a dad. These are the sort of memories I will remember forever.

The big hugs/kisses at the end of a long trip make it all worth it.
